Stuff Organizer – Keep Track of All Your Files
Review by on
Stuff Organizer, a tool offered free of charge under a GNU license, will help you keep all your data organized. You can use it to organize your movies, eBooks, applications, music, and any other stuff you may have. From a centralized location you have easy access to all the data you’ve entered into Stuff Organizer.

Download a 4.4MB executable and run it to install Stuff Organizer on a PC powered by Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003 and 2008. There’s nothing outstanding to report about the installation process: it’s a standard “keep clicking Next in the setup wizard until you’re done” matter.

Stuff Organizer’s interface is divided into three main sections. The pane to the left presents a list of all your stuff, grouped into categories. The Applications, eBooks, Games, Movies and Music categories are already there; you can add more categories by clicking on “Add category”; you will get to pick a name, color, icon, and target path for the newly created category. Select a category, and all the stuff inside it will be displayed in the pane to the right. Select some stuff, and info on it will be displayed in the pane at the bottom.

The easiest way to add stuff to the application is to simply drag and drop it onto its interface; alternatively, you can use the Add Directory or Add Files menus from the upper left hand corner on the application’s interface. If a category is selected when you drag and drop stuff onto the application’s interface, it will be added to that category; if not, you can assign a category later on. You can do this from the processing dialog or by dragging and dropping your stuff onto the appropriate category after it is added to the application.

As mentioned above, Stuff Organizer invites you to pick a target path for a newly created category. Of course, you can easily set a target path for existing categories as well. When you add a video, for example, to Stuff Organizer, it will create a folder for that video and put the video inside the folder. When you assign a category to the video, the application will move the folder based on the target. So if the target is D:Videos, the folder with your video will be moved to that target. From Stuff Organizer’s interface, double click on the video, and the target folder will be presented. Right click the video and you will be presented with a menu that lets you access the source dir, delete source files, and more.

For no charge, you will get a properly good application that lets you efficiently organize all your stuff. I don’t see why you wouldn’t want to get Stuff Organizer.

Easily and quickly install the application on a Windows-powered PC. Drag and drop files and folders to add them to Stuff Organizer. Easily assign categories to your stuff; your stuff will be put in folders and the folders will be moved to the target you specify. Stuff Organizer is freeware. Support for English, French, and Hungarian is provided.

The interface is a bit too simple.
